Negotiation Theory and Practice (Cambridge, MA: Program on Negotiation Books, 1991) edited by J. William Breslin and Jeffrey Rubin, is a text for students of negotiation. It offers a collection of articles from leaders in the field.

New Directions in Mediation: Communication Research and Perspectives (Thousand Oaks, California: Sage Publications, 1994) by Joseph Folger and Tricia Jones, this book offers a collection of essays that analyze mediation as a communication process.

Promise of Mediation (Jossey-Bass, 1994), by Joseph Folger and Baruch Bush, this book renewed academic and professional interest in a historic model for relationship building which these authors call "transformative mediation" as an alternative to traditional problem-solving mediation. The book launched the early 21st century revival of this approach to mediation.

The Resolution of Conflict (New Haven CT: Yale University Press, 1973), by Morton Deutsch, this book is a collection of theoretical and research papers, plus an essay from the author which describes the typical courses of destructive and productive conflict. It is a primary source of academic discussion about conflict resolution.

Water Law, Planning and Policy: Cases and Materials (Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, Inc., 1968) by Joseph L. Sax, this book discusses goals and planning implementation processes for water conservation.
