Mediation Fact

As of Feb 2006, all child custody cases in the state of Utah must also go through mediation.

Eliminate Costs

No one wants to pay more for their case than necessary. In Utah, mediation is mandatory for all divorce and custody cases. This means everyone must pay for a court-qualifed mediator. A typical cost is at least several hundred dollars. If you plan to hire a lawyer to prepare your legal papers, the costs are even higher.

There is a way to limit the cost of a mediator and eliminate your lawyer's bills completely. The Utah court system has provided all needed legal forms for a divorce on its website. Further, the court system also provides a calculator right online for child support, along with a program that prepares the form required for showing how you made those calculations.

Further, if you use a mediator through Utah Mediation Services, you will receive forms that do much of the mediation without a mediator. Here is a list of the forms in the Utah Mediation Services "Divorce Mediation Packet":

  • Mediation Application

  • Mediation Agreement

  • Family Information Worksheet

  • Asset & Debt Worksheet

  • Income Worksheet

  • Parenting Worksheet

  • Child Support Worksheet

  • Family Information Agreement

  • Asset & Debt Agreement

  • Income Agreement

  • Parenting Agreement

  • Child Support Agreement

  • Miscellaneous Issues Agreement

If you want to keep down the time - and therefore the costs - required to fulfill the mandatory mediation required by law, use Utah Mediation Services' for your mediation. Register with UMS online now for only $29. This will be applied to your final UMS bill and includes the 28 page Divorce Mediation Packet which you will receive by mail.
